Mother’s Day Is Sunday & It’s Not Too Late If Unprepared

Gillian Sutton, owner of Flowers by Gillian is ready for the busiest week of the year. Her first love was houseplants and evolved into a whole floral experience. She began in the plant department at Safeway in Los Alamos, which later evolved to include fresh cut flowers. Sutton has been in the business of flowers, for over 35 years.

“It is a living art form able to create new every day,” Sutton said. “My best-selling flower arrangement is happy flowers usually including seasonal varieties, a mixed flower bouquet.” Spring flowers include iris and tulips, and Sutton has always offered the best quality flowers she can find, working hard to find and use locally sourced flowers.

She loves when she can offer flowers picked fresh this morning. She prefers the kinds of flowers she can buy straight from commercial growing farms, which also make them fresher than the usual fare. She welcomes the recycling of vases at her store. How nice to be able to re-use the many vases we come across each year and benefit a small, locally owned and operated business. “I feel it is important to use resources wisely,” Sutton. “Part of my business plan is to recycle and reuse to reduce the waste stream of our community. I shop at thrift stores near and far because then I can give their offerings a new life and also help the organization associated with the store.”

Flowers by Gillian carries a nice selection of houseplants including blooming plants, green plants, hanging baskets and succulents. They receive deliveries frequently and are happy to order something you need for any occasion. Flowers are the perfect gift to add comfort or joy to any situation. Sutton believes she can assist you in expressing the feelings you can’t seem to into words.

On the heels of prom and the dawning of high school graduation, we arrive at one of the busiest weeks of a florist’s year, Mother’s Day. You might be shocked to know that she has no cut off for making an order, but does encourage calling sooner than later. They will do the best they can to meet your needs and are passionate about being able to provide the, “Mother’s Best Bouquet through Mother’s Day.” The biggest question she has for you is, “What is her favorite color?” She’d also like to know her favorite flower and if mom has any allergies, but she’s prepared to create a happy arrangement of flowers for her to enjoy.

Flowers by Gillian, at 3801 Arkansas and will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. everyday through Mother’s Day. You can place an order by phone 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. by calling 505.663.0012 or visit  www.Flowersbygillian.net.

The community wishes Gillian and her team of delivery drivers a sunny week and hopes that on Mother’s Day, this mother of two gets a day of rest, too.
