COMMUNITY News:

Join Jim Scott, popular singer/guitarist/composer, as he shares his new music and multimedia experience called “The Year to Save the Earth.”

This program, which Scott is presenting around the country and soon in Los Alamos, mixes powerful songs with beautiful projected images of the planet.

His local performance is 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, 1738 North Sage St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Scott was awarded a National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) grant to create and present “The Year to Save the Earth.” His lyrical melodies and poetry celebrate what’s beautiful, amazing, and fragile about the planet. Facing the urgency of the environmental crisis, this musical and visual program challenges listeners to feel, to learn, and to act. The message is also one of optimism with many invitations to join in the singing.

Formerly a member of the Paul Winter Consort, Scott was composer of their celebrated Missa Gaia/Earth Mass and sang their anthem song Common Ground. He has toured the world, recorded nine CDs of original music, and published a growing line of choral works. Friend Pete Seeger called him “some kind of magician” and long-time collaborator Paul Winter said, “His music sings of the life spirit.”

Admission at the door is  $20 for adults, $10 for college students, and free to those 18 or younger.
