Nature Center Hosts Crow Talk Author Eileen Garvin Monday

PEEC News:

The community is invited to join author Eileen Garvin 6 p.m. Monday, May 20 at the Los Alamos Nature Center for a discussion of her latest novel Crow Talk, a moving story of hope, healing and unexpected friendship that channels the same heart and gorgeous nature writing that readers loved in Garvin’s national bestselling debut The Music of Bees.

“I’m excited to get a chance to visit Los Alamos as part of the book tour for Crow Talk,” Garvin said. “I lived in New Mexico for many years, but only became familiar with Los Alamos after I left. I have a dear friend who lives there who has introduced me to the beautiful local trails. The landscape is just stunning and like nowhere else I’ve been. I’m enjoying learning about the local birding habitat and efforts to connect residents with the environment through organizations like Pajarito Environmental Education Center.”

Deeply rooted in Garvin’s personal history, Crow Talk centers on two women and a lonely little boy who have all retreated to a remote alpine lake in the woods of Washington State, seeking solace.

A chance encounter with an injured baby crow spurs an unlikely friendship, allowing all three to forge a path towards healing, rediscovery and joy.

Crow Talk has received rave reviews:

What a phenomenal novel! Crow Talk is a 5 star, heartfelt novel that had me at hello! The storyline was well thought out and was intentionally paced so the reader would slow down and savor the book—love that! The characters are so incredibly endearing and will definitely stay with me. Eileen Garvin is a master at writing character driven novels, and I recommend Crow Talk to absolutely everyone.” —Steph and Chris’s Book Reviews

Communication specialist and Los Alamos resident Cristina Olds will lead a discussion with her longtime friend. They will discuss Garvin’s story about the breathtaking natural beauty that our very real world can offer if we slow down enough to take it all in. They will also discuss fascinating facts about crows, including how they can recognize human faces, how they care for each other, and how they pass knowledge down through generations.

Crow Talk is available for purchase at Samizdat Bookstore at the event. To register, visit PEEC’s events pages: https://peecnature.org/events/details/?id=53373]
