New Mexico Fight for Life is proud to present its inaugural Gala Ball Fundraiser, an empowering event to benefit survivors of suicide, promote suicide awareness, and foster suicide prevention in New Mexico communities. Please join us starting at 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, at the beautiful Cities of Gold Hotel Ballroom, located at 10 Cities of Gold Rd # A, Santa Fe, NM 87506.
A Night of Hope and Resilience
Our Gala Ball Fundraiser is a celebration of hope, resilience, and the spirit of coming together to make a difference. This event will serve as the kickoff for our newly founded nonprofit, which aims to support and serve the communities of Los Alamos and the surrounding areas in New Mexico.

Honoring Precious Legacies
New Mexico Fight for Life was founded with immense love and dedication by Ashley Detzel-Roessler, who tragically lost her husband to suicide on May 5th, 2013. Ashley and her husband Justin moved to New Mexico when he was offered a job at Pajarito Scientific Corporation. In the final days of his life, Justin was doing contract work for LANL through Pajarito Scientific Corp.
Ashley invited Shania Hicks, a survivor of suicide who lost her mother, Bonnie Hicks, of Santa Fe, to join forces in creating this nonprofit. Bonnie had been actively involved in social work, giving back to communities in and around Los Alamos. Ashley and Shania share a bond they never anticipated joining—the bond of being survivors of suicide, having lost two significant individuals in their lives. Their journey has been filled with challenges and heartache. However, amidst the sadness, they discovered a profound passion and made a solemn commitment to assist others who walk similar paths. The nonprofit stands as a tribute to the memory of Justin and Bonnie, recognizing the impact they had on countless lives.
Uniting to Combat Suicide
New Mexico ranks #4 in the United States for the highest suicide rate, a deeply concerning statistic that Ashley and Shania are determined to change. Through their nonprofit, they aim to create and provide services that can make a difference and help lower these distressing numbers.
