New Mexico Supreme Court News:
SANTA FE – The New Mexico Presidential Primary Nomination by Committee meeting will be held in person 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 22, at the New Mexico Supreme Court Courtroom 237, Don Gaspar Ave. in Santa Fe.
The purpose of the meeting is to nominate presidential primary candidates, and certify to the secretary of state the names of all those generally advocated and nationally recognized or supported by any major political party in the state as candidates of the major political parties participating in the 2024 Presidential Primary for the Office of President of the United States.
The meeting is open to the public via a live stream broadcast on the website of the Supreme Court of New Mexico at https://www.nmcourts.gov/live-video-stream/.
Individuals with a disability who are in need of auxiliary aid, service or special assistance, should contact the New Mexico Supreme Court Clerk’s Office at 505.827.4860 at least 72 hours prior to the meeting.
State law requires that a committee convene in Santa Fe consisting of:
- Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, as chair;
- Speaker of the House of Representatives;
- Minority Floor Leader of the House of Representatives;
- President Pro Tempore of the Senate;
- Minority Floor Leader of the Senate; and
- State chair of those major political parties participating in the presidential primary.
C. Shannon Bacon, Chief Justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court, chairs the committee. Other members are Javier Martinez, Speaker of the House of Representatives; T. Ryan Lane, Minority Floor Leader of the House of Representatives; Mimi Stewart, President Pro Tempore of the Senate; Gregory A. Baca, Minority Floor Leader of the Senate; Jessica Velasquez, Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico; Steve Pearce, Chair of the Republican Party of New Mexico and Joshua Chappell, Chair of the Libertarian Party of New Mexico.
