NMSP News:

New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Uniform Officers and Agents from the Criminal Investigations Bureau assisted the Corrections Department/Adult Probation and Parole Office, in arresting five absconders.

Two teams from New Mexico State Police and Probation and Parole saturated the communities of Alcalde, La Puebla, Chamita, Chimayo, Española, Hernandez, Medanales and El Llano Dec. 13, 2023, looking for absconders with active warrants who absconded their probation.

The overall goal was a collaboration between agencies to minimize the increased crime rate in the above-mentioned areas.

Two additional individuals picked up possession of narcotics related charges.

Herbert Romero, 37, of Española was arrested on his active felony warrant for failure to comply with the conditions of release and possession of a controlled substance. During his arrest, he was found in possession of substances consistent with cocaine and fentanyl.

“The work we do with Probation and Parole is important in locating individuals who don’t follow the conditions of release that have been set for them. It is critically important offenders know there will be consequences for not following the rules, especially when they have been given multiple opportunities,” NMSP Chief Troy Weisler said.
