NMDOT Receives Additional Federal Transportation Funds

Transportation Secretary Ricky Serna

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) received $61,180,940 from the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) annual August redistribution, which provides additional funding to states as part of the “use-it-or-lose-it” by the end of September process.

When certain federal transportation funding remains unspent before deadlines, the funds revert to a federal pool and are redistributed to other states.

New Mexico has a proven track record for maximizing its federal funding and successfully launching infrastructure projects on time, and these additional funds represent a reward for completing all the requirements, spending the funds timely and as planned. The federal pool for 2022 totals more than $6 billion.

“Together with State match, these additional federal funds will help the NMDOT invest in projects that will improve the transportation system throughout New Mexico,” Transportation Secretary Ricky Serna said. “The department has pulled a handful of selected projects off the shelf that will be on the letting schedule this fall or early next year.”

NMDOT projects benefitting from the additional funding:
