NMPED News:ALBUQUERQUE ― Aug. 22, the New Mexico Public Education Department announced that 2017 New Mexico Public School Grades are now available.
The results show that schools that have embraced education reforms continue to improve.
“We need to continue doing everything we can to put our students first so they can receive the high-quality education they deserve and go on to succeed in college, the workforce and life,” Gov. Susana Martinez said. “That includes empowering our parents to see how their local schools are performing compared to others around the state. These results aren’t surprising – those schools that have embraced reforms are on the rise while those that refuse to make improvements for our kids continue to struggle.”
Since 2012, New Mexico now has nearly 32,000 more kids attending “A” and “B” schools.
“It’s encouraging that so many of our schools that are embracing reforms are continuing to improve for our students,” Education Secretary-designate Christopher Ruszkowski said. “However, sadly, too many of our kids are still in persistently failing schools. It is unacceptable and we will continue to work with those districts to improve.”
Data-driven education reforms show that when you focus on student success – which includes helping parents stay involved in the education process – students excel. New Mexico’s students have also consistently shown that when you raise the academic bar, they rise with it.
Districts that are embracing change and opportunity are seeing incredible results. Of the 15 largest districts serving more than 60% of students in the state, many are now showing strong improvements – not only increasing the number of “A” schools within their districts – but also by drastically reducing the number of “F” schools within their districts.
