NNMC News:
EL RITO — The Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) Trades program has partnered with the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions and the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters to offer free Carpentry Training Camps to prepare participants to be job-ready for expanding opportunities in the construction trades.
Carpenters are critical to today’s construction industry, responsible for upwards of 80 percent of most projects. DWS projects a demand for more than 6,000 carpenters by 2028, with a median annual wage of $38,430.
The Carpentry Camps are open to anyone currently receiving unemployment insurance benefits or any dislocated worker no longer receiving unemployment benefits who has lost employment due to no fault of their own. Participants must be available to begin employment upon completion.
Through 40 hours of in-person and online classes – including hands-on lab instruction – participants will learn basic carpentry skills, become OSHA 10 Safety certified and receive coaching to determine their pathway to a career in carpentry. Program graduates will receive an employer list and opportunities to meet with companies that are hiring.
Camp sessions:
(Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required to attend.)
- Weekdays: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday for two weeks
- Evenings: 6 – 8:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday for four weeks

Once sufficient students sign up, additional camps on both the El Rito and Española campuses will be added. Class size is limited, so register early.
