NNMC Announces New Start Date For Its Free Carpentry Training Camps Is Monday March 28

NNMC News:

EL RITO — The Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) Trades program has announced a new start date for the first of several free Carpentry Training Camps.

The first weekday session begins Monday, March 28, with additional camps launching as registrations fill. Weekday, weeknight and weekend sessions are available.

These free Camps will prepare participants to be job-ready for expanding opportunities in the construction trades.

The Carpentry Camps are offered in partnerships with the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions and the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters. Carpenters are critical to today’s construction industry, responsible for upwards of 80 percent of most projects. DWS projects a demand for more than 6,000 carpenters by 2028.

Camps are open to anyone 18 years or older currently receiving unemployment insurance benefits or any dislocated worker no longer receiving unemployment benefits. Participants must be available to begin employment upon completion.

Through 40 hours of in-person and online classes – including hands-on training – participants will learn basic carpentry skills, become OSHA 10 safety certified and receive coaching to determine their pathway to a career in carpentry. Graduates will receive an employer list and opportunities to meet with companies that are hiring.

Camp sessions:

  • Weekdays: 9 a.m.  – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday for two weeks;
  • Evenings: 6 – 8:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday for four weeks; and
  • Weekends: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for four weekends.

(Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required to attend.)

The first weekday camp begins March 28 with face-to-face OSHA 10 training for all participants on the Española campus. An online OSHA 10 option also is available. Additional camps will be added on both the El Rito and Española campuses as registrations fill. Class size is limited, so register early.
