NNSA News:
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Los Alamos Field Office has prepared a floodplain assessment for proposed installation of a new 12-inch natural gas line that crosses through upper Pajarito Canyon and upper Starmer Canyon from Technical Area (TA) 8 to TA-22 at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
The gas line would replace the existing 70+ year old natural gas line and prevent loss of service to several LANL technical areas and Bandelier National Monument. A 15-day public comment period on the floodplain assessment begins with publication of this notification and ends Jan. 5, 2024.
Activities associated with this project that take place within the 100-year floodplains include new natural gas line installation, relocation of a section of fence and creation of three construction equipment and materials storage areas. The floodplain assessment is available here.

After the close of the public comment period and prior to issuing a floodplain statement of findings, NNSA will reevaluate the practicability of alternatives to the proposed floodplain action mitigating measures and take into account all substantive comments received during the public comment period. NNSA will endeavor to allow 15 days of public review prior to implementing the proposed action.
