MICHAEL P. NARANJO Jan. 31, 1983 – March 8, 2023
The family of Michael Naranjo announces the death of our beloved son, brother, and uncle. Michael passed away in Albuquerque March 8, 2023, after a long courageous battle of congestive heart failure. Michael was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Michael was born at 6:48 p.m. in the middle of a snowstorm at Los Alamos Medical Center. He was raised in Los Alamos, where he lived most of his life. Michael was soft spoken and had a quick wit. He loved to laugh and enjoy life.
He graduated from Los Alamos High School in 2001. Michael participated in football and NJROTC. Growing up, Michael was fascinated by magicians, forensics, and the criminal justice system.
Michael graduated from NMSU, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2011. He was a very active member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity at NMSU. He held the positions of Grand Master of Ceremonies, Pledge Educator, and One of Jackson’s Men.
Mike adopted Keeonah, a Siberian husky who stole his heart. Michael and Keeonah were inseparable from the day he brought her home, going on walks together as long as he was able.
Michael moved to Albuquerque where he worked for Presbyterian Health Services.
Michael loved fine food. His favorites were green chile chicken enchiladas, his grandmother’s special recipe of chicken parmesan, lobster and of course bananas foster. He also enjoyed baking. Every Christmas season he and his dad would make dozens upon dozens of biscochitos to give to family and friends. A couple of Michael’s baked specialties were wonderful cinnamon rolls and Tres leches cake.
Michael is survived by his parents Richard and Kelly, sister Deborah Englert-husband Matt, and Michael’s only nephew Mason. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by grandparents Harold Lujan, Ruby Lujan, Gilbert & Helen Naranjo, all from Los Alamos.
A Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos.
