ROBERT (BOB) COLDEN HAMMOCK Oct. 17, 1936 – May 29, 2023
Robert (Bob) Colden Hammock passed away May 29, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones in Santa Fe, NM. Robert was born October 17, 1936, in Atlanta, GA.
He joined the Air Force at the age of seventeen and was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Atwater, CA. While stationed there he met and fell in love with Freddie Lea Wilson, who became his wife.
While attending Modesto Junior College he made a pistol. This led to an interview and job offer with Lawrence Livermore Scientific Laboratory. He worked at Livermore until he transferred to Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos, NM in 1979. He retired from the Laboratory in 1993.
Bob shared his love of the outdoors with his family. Most weekends would be spent camping and fishing in the Sierra Nevadas in California and later in Northern New Mexico.
He shared many hunting and fishing trips with his son, Tim. Among the highlights were two caribou hunts in Alaska and whitetail deer in Kansas. He mostly enjoyed bow hunting in the Jemez mountains, not far from Los Alamos.
He was also a very talented artist. He specialized in oils, painting wildlife and landscapes. He collaborated with his daughter, Kay, on a landscape painting, which now hangs in her home.
Bob is predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Freddie Lea (Wilson) Hammock of Los Alamos, NM; parents John B. and Helen H. Hammock of Gadsden, AL; brothers Kenneth B. Hammock of Anniston, AL and James H. Hammock of Dallas, TX.
He is survived by his partner Mary Andersen of Santa Fe, NM; daughter Kay Hammock of Los Alamos, NM; son Tim (Susan) Hammock of White Rock, NM; granddaughter Jordan Hammock of White Rock, NM; grandsons Troy (Haley) Hammock of Las Cruces, NM and Peyton Hammock of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by brothers John Hammock of Gadsden, AL and William (Mac) Hammock of Tuscaloosa, AL and sister Sara (Sally) Hammock of Atlanta, GA and many nieces and nephews.
