SHERRY (SIMUNDSON) MAGEE Dec. 16. 1942 – Feb. 18, 2022
Sherry Lynn Magee, 79, survived by her husband of 31 years, Burl Dean Magee of Weatherford, TX, who was her high school sweetheart and lifelong love. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R.L. McLean, Polly McLean and brother Michael McLean.
Surviving daughters are DeEdda McLean and DeAnn Young of Hillsborough, NC; and stepson Corey Magee of Fort Worth, Texas. Grandchildren incude Emily Hendry (Craig Hendry) of Hillsbororgh, NC; Kevin Freyer (Darlette Martinez) of Albuquerque, NM and Matthew Magee of Fort Worth, Texas. Great Grandchildren include Evelyn Rae Hendry, Stormie, Anne Freyer, Alanya James Freyer, and Riley Lynn Freyer. She is also survived by her brother, Craig McLean (Amy Westin McLean) of Ft. Meyers, FL and sister, Karen VanWinkle (Craig VanWinkle) of Grandview, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sherry graduated from Eunice High School in Eunice, NM, obtained a teaching degree from Sul Ross State University, and completed a Master’s degree in counseling at the University of New Mexico.
She was a lifelong educator. Teaching elementary levels in Albuquerque, Los Alamos, and Roswell, NM. Retiring in 1991 and when she then served on the Roswell City Council.
She and Burl were active members of the Trinity Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Weatherford, and she was also a member of the Parker County Women’s Club, as well as many other clubs and organizations in the area.
She was a lifelong learner, avid crafter and loved to travel.
Sherry was an amazing connector of people, loved by her wide circle of friends throughout the United States. She loved to dance and was always the life of any gathering or party. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
In leu of flowers the family would like donations in her name to the Pipe Organ fund of First United Methodist Church, in Weatherford, TX. At Sherry’s request no formal services will be held, but the family with have private services at a later date to celebrate her life in the mountains of Northern New Mexico.
