Fr. Glenn: Of Shepherd And Mothers
Well, now habemus papam … we have a pope. We Catholics see the pope first in authority in the faith, because Jesus designated Peter as “… the rock upon which I will build my Church” (Matthew 16:18 ) After Jesus’ resurrection, the Eleven chose a replacement for Judas Iscariot the betrayer, following psalm 109:8: “His office let another take.” (Acts 1:20). Likewise, the pope takes the place of Peter as head of the current “apostles”, the bishops. The pope, too, is a bishop—the bishop of the seat of the Church: Rome … Rome being the place of martyrdom of Peter, and of Paul.

Posts From The Road: Peggy Sue’s Diner
Peggy Sue’s Diner: Once you spot Peggy Sue’s Diner in Yermo, Calif., you will always recognize it. The large Peggy Sue’s Diner lettering on the building and the colorful facade and entrance to the building set the stage for what is inside. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com
Barstools and Tables: This small room in Peggy Sue’s Diner featuring the diner bar and bar stools along with a few booths was the original diner. Once open it did not take the owners long to begin enlarging the facility. Today the restaurant has almost 10,000 square feet of space. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com

The addition of “Fair Market Value” can understandably raise questions about what this number actually represents.
As a licensed realtor, I believe it’s helpful to understand how this figure is determined per the County Assessor’s Office. The “Fair Market Read More

Happy Mother’s Day for those of you who celebrate. That qualifier might seem a little odd, but as clergy women, we know that this can be a difficult day for some. We all have parishioners who have struggled to have children, who never had the opportunity, or who are estranged from members of their family. We have some parishioners whose mothers were abusive or never Read More
Bear Trouble

Dear Los Alamos County,
Have you heard the phrase, “a fed bear is a dead bear?” I’m guessing yes, which is why I don’t understand how you persist in attracting the bears out of the canyon into our playlots with unsecured trash.
We citizens are doing our part by getting bear safe trash cans, keeping our trash inside our garages (if we have them) not feeding our pets outside, and doing all the other things your utility bill inserts ask us to. But it doesn’t matter Read More

Understanding Liability — and Protecting Yourself the Right Way
A strong storm hits. You look outside — and there it is. A huge branch (or even the whole tree) from your neighbor’s yard has landed on your fence, your roof, or your car.
Now what? Whose insurance pays? What should you do next?
Let’s walk through it calmly — because handling it right can save you a lot of frustration.
First: Know the General Rule
In most cases, if a tree falls onto your property, your homeowner’s insurance is responsible for the damage — even if the
