Initial Thoughts on the County Manager’s Response

After reading the County Manager’s response to SALA’s announcement, I would like to offer further perspective. I am not surprised that the County Manager saw security preferences as the only issue. However, my perception is that the County was unable to respond to the SALA application in a timely manner due to the lack of a solid process and guidelines for handling LEDA applications. The County seemed to make up many rules and “explicit requirements” as we went along. I repeatedly requested objective standards Read More

In New Mexico one of our best kept secrets is former U.S. Sen. Fred Harris. It was a lucky day in 1976 when Sen. Harris and his family moved to New Mexico.

The move came after two terms as U.S. senator from Oklahoma and two runs for president in 1972 and 1976.

On May 21 New Mexico PBS will air “American Experience: The Riot Report.” Harris is featured as the surviving member of the National Advisory Council on Civil Disorders, better known as the Kerner Commission. It was established after the Detroit riot of 1967, which killed dozens of people Read More

Fr. Glenn: Taking The Truck Route

By Fr. Glenn Jones:

We had an ordination yesterday of a couple of guys to priesthood—always a joy-filled day, and a reflective occasion for priests who ponder their own priesthood and the privilege and duty that it entails. The stories of individual discernment in pursuing such a vocation are as varied as there are priests—from cradle Catholics to converts from other Christian faiths all the way to former atheists having their own epiphanies. But, in the end, they pretty much end up at the same crossroads: what is real, and what is really important? What really matters?

So many persons are completely Read More

          4. Ransomware attack!

If you guessed “4. Ransomware attack”, congrats!

Ascension is one of the largest private healthcare systems in the US, ranking second in the country by number of hospitals in 2019. They have a presence in 19 states and Washington, D.C., with Read More
