One of the most exciting times in life is purchasing a new home, whether it’s your first starter home or your final retirement home. It’s an investment of money, but more importantly, it’s a commitment to family, life, and love.

Purchasing the appropriate homeowners policy is the first step to protecting your investment, but continuing to update the policy as you make any substantial life changes is what will give you the peace of mind that your investment is fully protected.

Clark: School Bond Benefits Students, Teachers, Community

By CAROL A. CLARK
Publisher
Los Alamos Daily Post

There is an important Bond Election underway for Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) that we at the Post believe will benefit K-12 students, teachers and the community for years to come. We encourage residents to support this bond.

Passage of this General Obligation Bond will not increase the local tax rate but what it will do is allow the schools to reach the goal of raising $30 million for much needed building projects. These projects include completing construction at Pinon and Chamisa elementary schools in White Rock, along with repairs, upgrades Read More

By GEORGE MORSE

Los Alamos Daily Post

Probably well-over 90-percent of the trout caught each year in New Mexico are triploid rainbow trout that began life in one of New Mexico’s fish hatcheries. Each year, the State Game and Fish Department stocks literally tons of these trout every week in New Mexico.

Triploid rainbow trout are sterile and cannot reproduce. They are created by subjecting the fertile trout eggs to either irradiation or high heat during development. It has been a number of years that New Mexico has only stocked this type of rainbow trout. Much smaller numbers Read More

Jaurigue: Statement Regarding OCR Complaint

By ANTONIO R. JAURIGUE
President
Los Alamos School Board

There has been some discussion among the community regarding a complaint that was filed to the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) in late 2021. I would like to shine a light on this issue by providing some insight within the bounds with which I am  comfortable. It is with tremendous reluctance that I speak on this issue, as I do not believe it is in the best Read More

By CHERYL and MORRIE PONGRATZ
Los Alamos

Many decades ago, when we lived in White Rock, our children attended the White Rock elementary schools – Chamisa and Pinon. Over the decades the conditions of those buildings have deteriorated to where the roofs leak, climate control is now inadequate, and plumbing issues have arisen. The cost of maintaining those school buildings has increased to the point where it is more cost efficient to build new buildings.

Per New Mexico law, we cannot pass a mill levy for operational expenses such as teacher’s salaries or building maintenance. Salaries Read More

Steinhaus: Proposed School Bond Addresses Critical Needs

By KURT STEINHAUS
Los Alamos

Good schools benefit everyone in Los Alamos, and I wholeheartedly support the upcoming bond election to provide essential funding for our schools. As a retired superintendent dedicated to education in Los Alamos, I understand the importance of modern facilities that foster a conducive learning environment and student and staff well-being. Updated school facilities also help keep everyone safe.

The proposed bond would address critical needs. It’s not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about creating an environment where our children can thrive academically Read More
