Fr. Glenn: Beginning With Me
By Fr. Glenn Jones:
So here we come to the final few days before Christmas. Now, one of the perennial Bible excerpts read during this time of year is a Messianic prophecy from Isaiah: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called ‘Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace’. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.” (Isaiah 9:6-7)
And so, as we look at our world … it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Or not.

Home Country: Pick A Year
Home Country
By SLIM RANDLES
“And that’s another thing,” Herb said, with finality, “Changing that dang year on everything we write, every January. Goes against human nature.”
“Well I might just have an answer to your problem, Herb,” Doc said, sipping and dunking and stirring. “Why don’t we, here at the philosophy counter, pick out a year we like and stick with it? Date everything we do with that year. It might start a movement, you never know.”
Steve looked up from his coffee and twitched his voluminous mustache then twitched it again to make sure he got it right the first time.
“So Doc,” he said, “you’re Read More

We previously have reviewed a pond in the wilderness unexpectedly turning a bright red for a couple of weeks. This is a rare event that may occur only every few years.
However bright red colors can appear annually for a couple of weeks. A special bright red also occurs on one day of the year. The mushroom in Picture 1 is called “fly agaric”. A fly agaric mushroom emerges from the earth as a bright red cone that is covered with white patches. This cone then may spread Read More

By Dr. Laura Leonard DC
Los Alamos
Research estimates that it can take anywhere from 18 to 200 plus days to form or break a habit. Creating habits are an essential part of hitting our New Year’s goals.
We often give up if we don’t have success with our goals by the end of January. Now is the time to begin thinking about goals and to start writing down a plan to achieve them.
In a previous article, I discussed SMART goals as a tool for writing down our plan on paper. Get a New Year’s resolution notebook to write down SMART steps.

The (Los Aamos County) Environmental Sustainability Board will present its pesticides-reduction recommendations to the County Council tonight.
You’ve probably seen letters to the editor about the effort to ban global use of glyphosates. Interestingly enough, so has the Beyond Pesticides organization in Washington, D.C.
Glyphosate is a herbicide/pesticide used for killing weeds, but confirmed to cause some cancers in humans as well as killing pollinators. Eliminating pesticide/herbicide use is, indeed, a global issue.

One of the most effective restorative yoga poses is called Feet Up the Wall Pose or Viparita Karani. This is one of the easiest ways to turn yourself upside down without having to do a handstand or headstand and it’s just as, if not more beneficial for the mind and body.
This is a wonderful pose to do if you are stressed, have anxiety or depression or are just looking to see a different perspective on a problem. The idea is to melt into the floor and just let go.
Key benefits from this pose:
