Harrison Schmitt Elementary School News:
New Mexico themed ornaments crafted by Silver City elementary students will adorn a White House Christmas Tree this holiday season.
Each year, one school from each state and territory—as well as Washington, D.C.—is chosen to create ornaments for the tree through the America Celebrates ornament program.
This year, Harrison Schmitt Elementary School was selected as New Mexico’s representative school. Ornaments created by 12 Harrison Schmitt students were chosen to go to the White House—all of which celebrated New Mexico themes.
“We are incredibly proud of the creativity displayed by local students,” Silver City Manager Alex Brown said. “It’s an honor to have Harrison Schmitt Elementary selected by the America Celebrates ornament program, and we are excited to be able to send a little bit of Silver City holiday spirit to our nation’s capital.”
Students whose ornaments were chosen include: Nathaniel Conner, Angela Gonzales, Audrey Hernandez, Lorelei Hoffman, Joshua Jordan, Annette Montoya, Audriana Placencia, Esmia Quinteros, Geneva Roper, Boone Schertz, Tatum Schertz and Brendan Warren.
