New Mexico Supreme Court Issues Opinion Abolishing Lawsuits For Alienation Of Affections
NMSC News:
SANTA FE — The New Mexico Supreme Court (NMSC) Monday issued a precedent-setting opinion eliminating legal claims for damages for the loss of a spouse’s affections in a marriage.
The Court’s unanimous opinion provides the legal reasoning for a ruling from the bench last August ordering a trial court to dismiss a civil lawsuit that sought to hold a New Mexico resident liable for the breakup of a Colorado man’s marriage. The Colorado couple is now divorced.
The ruling by the state’s highest court abolished the “tort of alienation of affections” by overturning a legal precedent from a Read More

Denish: Healthcare Compacts And Medical Malpractice Reform Must Go Hand In Hand
By DIANE DENISH
Corner to Corner

I used to have a greeting card that said, “Some days I don’t know whether to change the world or enjoy the world. It makes it hard to plan the day.” If we do one, we can do the other. By changing the world, I don’t mean the entire world. I mean our world right here in New Mexico — the world around us. That’s why I’ve been paying close attention to what is happening with healthcare worker compacts (not just doctors) and medical malpractice reform.
One thing should be clear: not all trial lawyers are medical malpractice lawyers. Trial lawyers are necessary Read More

There’s a lot of money at stake when it comes to New Mexico’s medical malpractice laws.
Perhaps it’s not surprising advocates on both sides of the issue contribute a lot to lawmakers’ campaigns.

Fr. Glenn: Redeeming Time
By Fr. Glenn Jones:
One of the topics that arises frequently when speaking to families with young children is the parents’ desire for the kids to reach their potential, whatever potential that might be. Bills, illnesses, unforeseen events can overturn the best laid plans in a moment.
We “oldies” often look at the young with envy, realizing the open horizon that awaits them … the Read More
