ALBUQUERQUE — Albuquerque mayoral candidate Darren White will headline a group of speakers at the Republican Party of New Mexico’s (RPNM) grand opening event at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Dec. 6.

LAGS To Host 56th Annual Earth Treasure Show Dec. 6-7

The Los Alamos Geological Society (LAGS) will host its annual Earth Treasure Show, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at Pajarito Masonic Lodge #66, 1400 N. Sage Loop.
LAGS’s 56th annual Earth Treasure Show will feature dealers selling minerals, fossils, jewelry and much more. There will be a children’s craft table and the Wheel of Fortune for kids to try their luck.

New Mexico became the first U.S. state to guarantee no-cost child care starting Nov. 1, making services free for families of all income levels with children up to age 13.

Marilyn Stevens passed away peacefully at her home in Los Alamos on Sunday morning, Nov. 30, surrounded by her loving children and faithful dog.
Marilyn Watkins was born in Minneapolis, MN., in 1933. When she was five, her family moved to a farm outside Carlton, MN (about halfway between Duluth and Lake Wobegone), where she grew up. Many of Marilyn’s family stories and memories were centered there. Marilyn was the youngest of 6 children and grew up during World War II. Her oldest brother, Harold, served in the war, and was killed in Italy in 1943.

As winter approaches, many in the Española Valley face bitter cold without stable shelter. Rising living costs, reductions in SNAP benefits, and limited access to healthcare make this winter especially difficult.
The Interfaith Coalition on Homelessness (ICOH), a local organization based in Los Alamos, has launched a community-wide winter collection drive to support unhoused and at-risk neighbors. Altocumulus clouds, known in Spanish as el cielo emborregao, are cloud puffs that resemble sheep’s wool. Old Hispanic lore would read these clouds as a bad omen but, in my life, a life lived mostly in the kitchen, this type of cloud formation reminds me of natillas and that is always a good sign.
