Los Alamos Public Schools is pleased to announce that, for the second time, all seven schools in the district were designated as Spotlight schools by NM Vistas. This is the highest ranking in the state.
The data reflects reporting for the 2024-2025 school year.
The district and school sites will review current data and gather feedback on ways to continue to improve and ensure that 100% of our students are successful academically, socially, and emotionally.

Snow is now beginning to fall in the higher elevations and the beautiful white covering on the mountains is a most welcome sight. When planning a trip it will be increasingly important to keep track of weather and road conditions at and going to your destination.

Luján, Barrasso Bill Improves Efficiency Of Suicide & Crisis Lifeline Through 988 Lifeline Location Improvement Act
U.S. SENATE News:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sens. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) introduced bipartisan legislation to improve geolocation data and increase the efficiency of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Last year, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) took action to require service providers to route phone calls to 988 to the nearest call center based on geographic location. In July of this year, the FCC took steps to require geo-routing for texts. Previously, calls and texts were routed based on the phone’s area code, often resulting in a geographic mismatch. Read More

FBI: Fruitland Man Pleads Guilty In Fatal DUI Crash

ALBUQUERQUE — A Fruitland man pleaded guilty to a federal crime after a fatal car crash involving drugs that resulted in the death of a baby.
According to court documents, April 3, 2024, Dewayne Earl Blackie, 37, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, was driving on a two-lane highway near Shiprock, New Mexico, when he collided with two other cars that were pulled over on the right-hand side of the road. A 16-month-old child was ejected from his vehicle. The child died from blunt-force injuries. After the wreck, methamphetamines and marijuana were found in Blackie’s system.

Casamero Lake Woman Pleads Guilty To Involuntary Manslaughter In Fatal Hit-And-Run

ALBUQUERQUE — A Casamero Lake woman pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter after striking and killing a pedestrian on a dirt road while driving drunk.
According to court documents, on or about Aug. 6, 2024, Debbie Rojack, 45, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, hit and killed John Doe on a dirt road after drinking a 6-pack of beer the day of the incident. John Doe’s body was found on the side of the road four days later. The cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma.
