County: Water Repair Prompts West Road Closure

COUNTY News:

West Road from Diamond Drive to Fairway Drive will be closed to traffic in both directions 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday while water distribution crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) repair a large water leak.

During that time, West Road will be closed to semi-trucks between Fairway Drive and N.M. 502. Anyone else wishing to drive on that portion of West Road will need to detour through Western Area using Trinity Drive, 43rd Street, and Fairway Drive to access it.

MARLENE MILLER Feb. 2, 1944 – Oct. 28, 2025

Marlene Miller, a loved member of the White Rock community, passed away on October 28, 2025, at the age of 81. In her final days, she was under the gentle hospice care of family and Los Alamos Visiting Nurses.

Born on February 2, 1944, Marlene dedicated a significant portion of her professional life to Los Alamos National Laboratory, where she worked in nuclear safety. Marlene’s deep faith and contributions to her profession and her community will be remembered with admiration, and she will be deeply missed.

Los Alamos County Ice Rink Opening Delayed Until Late Nov.

The Los Alamos County Ice Rink will have a delayed opening due to mechanical issues. The new anticipated opening date is Nov. 28, 2025. We will announce a confirmed opening date as soon as more information becomes available.

In addition, late night facility operations at the rink will begin on Nov. 12, 2025.

New Mexico Fairgrounds District Board Approves Predevelopment Plan

SANTA FE — The State Fairgrounds District Board on Thursday voted unanimously to adopt a $67.8 million predevelopment plan for the property that prioritizes community benefits and the rehabilitation of Albuquerque’s International District. 

The predevelopment plan is an important step toward creation of a master plan, an effort launched in July that is expected to be completed in March 2026.

On December 18, 1970, a nuclear weapons test was conducted in an underground shaft at the Nevada Test Site. The test, code-named Baneberry, was detonated at a depth of about 900 feet.
