The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) invites community members to join them for Coffee with A Cop, a unique opportunity to connect with local law enforcement. The event will be held on Thursday, September 25th, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Ruby K’s Bagel Cafe, located at 1789 Central Avenue.
Coffee With a Cop offers a casual setting for citizens, business owners, and visitors to engage in meaningful conversations with police officers. On September 21, 2025, Mountain Club swimmers set a new NM Swimming short course state record in the 10 & Under Mixed 200-Yard Freestyle Relay (2:05.28) at the 2025 Four Corners Short Course Opener.
The record-breaking team—Eleanora Minko (10), Preslee Robinson (10), Daniel Certik (10), and Jiadong Guo (9)—surpassed the previous record of 2:14.63, which had stood since January 2018.

Luján Applauds Senate Passage Of Major Bipartisan Bill To Address Fentanyl Crisis
U.S. SENATE News:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) applauded the unanimous Senate passage of legislation to reauthorize the SUPPORT Act – a landmark federal investment to combat the fentanyl crisis through addiction prevention, treatment, recovery, and law enforcement efforts. The bipartisan package of fentanyl prevention bills, led by U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), now heads to the president’s desk to be signed into law.
Originally enacted in 2018, the SUPPORT Act represents the foundation of the federal response to the opioid epidemic and fentanyl crisis. Read More

FBI: Mexican National Charged For Possessing Over 13,000 Rounds Of Ammunition

ALBUQUERQUE — A Mexican national is facing federal charges for allegedly possessing almost 14,000 rounds of ammunition found during a routine traffic stop.
According to court documents, on August 14, 2025, an officer from Las Cruces Metro Narcotics conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Luis Carlos Martinez Monge, a Mexican national, for speeding, and found 699 boxes of ammunition concealed within the vehicle. Rise In Overdose Deaths, ER Visits In Three NM Counties

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Health reports an increase in overdose deaths and overdose-related emergency department visits during the first half of 2025 in three Northeast counties: Rio Arriba, Santa Fe, and Taos.
Drug overdose deaths increased in Rio Arriba County by 48%, in Santa Fe County by 104% and in Taos County by 340% compared to the same time last year. Drug overdose related emergency department visits also increased by 81% in Rio Arriba County, 131% in Santa Fe County, and 206% in Taos County.

Daily Postcard: A Northern Flicker eating berries recently at Overlook Park in White Rock. Northern Flickers are large woodpeckers that live year-round in much of the US. In fact, they are among the most commonly seen woodpeckers in northern New Mexico. According to ‘All About Birds’ they generally nest in holes in trees.
