An article in the Santa Fe New Mexican (Aug. 13, 2025) described a USFS “finding of no impact” for a proposed power line that would cross the northern Caja Plateau, linking Los Alamos with an existing electrical substation just off Buckman Road. Since then, I have read several strong statements of opposition. While there certainly is opposition to the project, there is also support. I’d like to provide some food for thought.

Bridge Repair Project In Española To Begin Monday

NMDOT News:

  • The project is expected to cost $149,282

ESPAÑOLA – A bridge repair project will begin Monday, Sept. 15 on N.M. 68 in Española.

The project entails the patching and injection of epoxy into delaminated areas of the bridge decks and then repair of joint seals between the sections of the bridge decks. Finally, there will be an application of an overlay to protect the bridge decks from the elements. This should extend the life of the bridges by many years.

FBI: Federal Charges Filed In Assault Case

ALBUQUERQUE — Two men have been indicted on federal charges for an assault that left one victim seriously injured.

According to court documents, on January 10, 2025, Myron Scott, 34, of Navajo, New Mexico, and Eric Scott, 34, of Fort Defiance, Arizona, both enrolled members of the Navajo Nation, assaulted John and Jane Doe with a baseball bat and a large stick, resulting in serious bodily injury to John Doe.

OBAE Ribbon Cutting Marks Milestone For Broadband Recovery In Lincoln County

RUIDOSO, NM — A new era has been ushered in when it comes to broadband recovery efforts in Lincoln County.

Bridge Approach Lift Project To Begin On NM 41 In Galisteo

GALISTEO — A Bridge Approach Lift project will begin on NM 41 in Galisteo, NM.

The project entails the injection of stabilizing material under the approach ramps to the bridges south of town. This material will expand as it sets to raise the ramps to the current level of the bridge decks and help to stabilize the ground underneath the approaches.

CBN Field Assessments Advance Into Los Alamos Townsite

COUNTY News:

Hexad crews working for Bonfire on behalf of Los Alamos County, are moving into the Los Alamos townsite this week after completing initial work in White Rock. They are conducting field assessments for the County’s Community Broadband Network (CBN) design. Work is expected to continue into October 2025 and involves collecting utility data and evaluating planned aerial and underground routes across the County.  Limited access to some private property is required.

ALBUQUERQUE — Two Albuquerque men have pleaded guilty to conspiring to transport and harbor undocumented immigrants after federal agents uncovered a stash house linked to a kidnapping and ransom scheme.

Operation Meow Launches To Support Community Cat Caretakers In Northern New Mexico
