For the next exhibit at Step Up Gallery, the gallery managers have invited New Mexico artists who create comics, graphic novels, political cartoons, drawings and paintings that speak to the times we live in.

Truth, Justice and Freedom of Expression opens Aug. 16 and runs through Sept. 11 in Step Up Gallery at Mesa Public Library. The opening reception is 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, in the upstairs rotunda at Mesa Public Library, 2400 Central Ave.

Cowboy Breakfast At Sheriff’s Posse Lodge Sunday Aug. 10

Sheriff’s Posse News:

The Los Alamos County Sheriff’s Posse is hosting its monthly Cowboy Breakfast this Sunday, Aug. 10.

The breakfast is served 7-11 a.m. at the Sheriff’s Posse Lodge at 650 North Mesa Road, near the North Mesa Stables.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes:

  • Pancakes – Banana, Blueberry, Chocolate Chip and Plain;
  • Scrambled Eggs;
  • Sausage;
  • Bacon; and
  • Coffee, Tea and Orange Juice.

The price for adults is $10, children 4-10 years of age $5 and those 0-3 are free.

Proceeds this month go to benefit the Los Alamos Sheriff’s Posse, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Read More

Gary Horpedahl passed away at his home in Walnut Creek, CA on Aug. 1, 2025, at the age of 76. His sudden passing has left us all shocked and very sad.

Born Jan. 10, 1949, to LeRoy Horpedahl and Alice Horpedahl (nee Hammett), Gary was raised in Los Alamos, New Mexico where his father worked as an engineer and project manager at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Gary graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1967 and went to Honduras for the summer to build homes through the Lutheran Church.

The U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration’s (DOE/NNSA) Los Alamos Field Office and the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) will hold a hybrid public meeting to discuss the controlled depressurization of headspace gas from four flanged tritium waste containers (FTWCs) at Technical Area 54, Area G, at LANL.

FBI: Albuquerque Man Pleads Guilty To Exploiting Minors Via Social Media

ALBUQUERQUE — An Albuquerque man pleaded guilty to federal charges involving the exploitation of minors using social media platforms.

According to court records, between June 2021 and March 2023, Adrian Puentes, 25, used Instagram and Snapchat to coerce and entice two minors under the age of 18 to engage in illegal sexual activity. Puentes admitted that he threatened one victim, demanding sexually explicit photographs and stating he would share them publicly if she did not comply. An exploratory walk can lead to plants that look very different from one another or very much alike. The Spanish broom is an example. It is a bush that may grow six to eight feet high. It is somewhat circular in shape and can have hundreds of straight slim stems.

The stems are up to an eighth of inch wide, green colored, and two to three feet long. A stem may have few small leaves growing toward it base, (see Picture 1). It is at its flowering peak in June.
