SANTA FE – On July 26, 2025, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting involving New Mexico State Police (NMSP).

Investigators learned that at approximately 1 p.m., the Santa Fe Police Department (SFPD) was dispatched to 18A Reata Road for a welfare check. The calling party requested a welfare check on her daughter, who she believed was being physically assaulted by her boyfriend, Paul Gallegos, 38.

North Central Regional Transit District: Temporary Service Reductions Due To Ongoing Driver Shortage

ESPAÑOLA — The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) announced Thursday a series of temporary service reductions affecting several Blue Bus routes and services, beginning Monday, August 4, 2025, due to a continued shortage of transit operators.

State Gets 42 Bids For $675M Broadband Program Within Two Weeks After BEAD Reboot

SANTA FE — New Mexico received 42 new applications in just two weeks for $675 million in federal broadband grants, bringing the total to 87 applications as providers rush to expand high-speed internet to more than 44,000 unserved locations statewide. 

The surge in applications came after new federal rules restarted the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program last month. The 42 applications submitted in two weeks show increased interest compared to the original three-month application period.

Shiprock Man Sentenced To 10 Years For Deadly DWI Crash

ALBUQUERQUE – A Shiprock man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for causing a deadly drunk driving crash on the Navajo Nation reservation that resulted in two deaths and serious injuries.

According to court documents, on Dec. 1, 2023, Brian Gonnie, 45, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, was operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol on Highway 64 in Shiprock, New Mexico. He was traveling at approximately 86 mph in a 35-mph zone when he crossed into the oncoming lane and struck another vehicle head-on.
