Court Affirms Convictions Of Pecos Man For Fatal Shooting

COURT News:

SANTA FE — The state Supreme Court today affirmed a Pecos man’s convictions for first-degree murder, attempted murder and other charges stemming from a shooting after an argument during a night of drinking.

The Court unanimously rejected Mark Valencia’s argument that the trial court erred in denying his requested jury instruction on whether his level of intoxication prevented him from forming the required criminal intent for willful and deliberate first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Raymond Harold Voos died peacefully in his home in Rio Rancho, NM on July 6, 2025. He dedicated 25 years of his career to Los Alamos National Laboratory as a prototype machinist before retiring in 1993. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Rutheron, NM, where they spent their winter months “snowbirding” throughout the US before settling down in Rio Rancho, NM.

Originally native to Europe and Asia, the brown trout has proven to be very adaptable and has established wild populations in all the states where it has been introduced. Local businesses rely on their local, non-profit chambers of commerce to help them grow and build a thriving community. Unfortunately, this makes local chambers of commerce targets for scammers! Recently, I’ve seen reports coming out of other areas that their local chamber of commerce has been impersonated by scammers. It seems to be mostly back east so far, but it is good to be aware as it will likely make its way out here.
