New Mexico Board Of Veterinary Medicine Opens Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Grants Program Application Process

The New Mexico Board of Veterinary Medicine has opened a grant application process to fund low-cost spay/neuter services for companion animals of income-qualified New Mexicans. The Board will disburse $1 million in 2025 to nonprofit spay/neuter organizations, animal shelters, and other local government entities for the purpose of increasing affordable and accessible spay/neuter services throughout the state.

The annual Interfaith Los Alamos Backpack/School Supplies Drive is underway. The community is asked to help Lutheran Family Services (LFS) provide backpacks and school supplies to approximately 200 families/refugees in need.

LFS is not taking in new refugees due to changes in government funding and policy. LFS is one of the most capable groups resettling refugees/evacuees who have gone through a legal process to come here. They are taught English, provided with cultural training, helped to find jobs and become valued members of the society.

The Atomic City Road Runner’s weekly pace race held Tuesday in Rendija Canyon was hampered by rain approximately halfway into the race and the predict slips were not usable for accurate predictions.

In the 1-mile distance Max Davis, 3, was the top finisher at 12:35 and the first female was Aster Zavoria, 2, with a time of 26:13.

Madeline Harms was the best finisher in the 2-mile race, recording a 19:12 and Warren Scoggins was the first male finisher at 23:22.

A dairy farm in southeastern New Mexico was more or less put out of business a few weeks ago when 11 workers were arrested for alleged immigration violations and the farmer had to fire an additional 24 workers.

The workers allegedly provided false documentation. What would you expect them to do? Presumably they did what they had to do to qualify for a job. The farmer reportedly is now just taking care of his cows. Without those employees he can’t do what’s needed to sell milk. Nobody benefits from this.

Catch Of The Week: FBI Issues Router Warning

Got an old router- like from 2010 or earlier, also known as end of life (EOL)? You might be in for a cyber incident, at least according to a warning issued by the FBI last month. Routers dated 2010 or earlier are likely no longer receiving software updates, which leaves them open to vulnerabilities.

Recently the FBI released a list of EOL routers with remote administration/management enabled that were breached by cyber actors using variants of TheMoon malware. This malware allows actors to install proxies on victim routers and conduct cybercrime anonymously.

New Mexico’s Unemployment Rate 4.2% In May 2025

New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.2 percent in May, down from 4.3 percent in April and up from 4.1 percent in the previous year. The national unemployment rate in May was 4.2 percent, unchanged from April and up from 4.0 percent in May 2024.

Total nonagricultural payroll employment grew by 18,700 jobs, or 2.1 percent, between May 2024 and May 2025. The majority of gains came from the private sector.
