WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) announced today the award of a cooperative agreement that accelerates the dual objectives of eliminating the use of proliferation-sensitive highly enriched uranium (HEU) in the production of medical isotopes and establishing reliable domestic supplies of Molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) to meet U.S. patient needs.

Christkindlmarkts are open-air markets where vendors sell everything from arts and crafts to food and beverages. The holiday-themed event originated in Europe but organizer Blair Braden decided Los Alamos, his hometown, would be a good place to introduce the Southwest to this type of holiday shopping.

New owner Victor M. Medina of the Dixie Girl Restaurant at 1789 Central Ave., has developed a new pub menu with weekly liquor specials. (See menu below)

By CARL NECKERWe received a phone call on our home line indicating we had won a significant amount of money. It would take $150 submitted through a wire transfer through Western Union to release the funds to us. An obvious scam! We played along for a little while … “We don’t live near a Western Union” … “Well, go to Walmart or CVS Pharmacy. They do money transfers.” “We don’t live near either of those. And you should know where we live since you called us.”

World-renowned astrophysicist Dimitri Mihalas passed away in his sleep at his home on November 21, 2013 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Dr. Mihalas retired from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999 and from the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2011. Dimitri, to his friends and family, has donated his body to the University of New Mexico Medical School and his library to New Mexico Tech.

Deputy County Administrator Steven Lynne briefs Council and provides background financial information to the Council on the FY 2014 first quarter budget review and FY 2015 budget.
