Council to Revisit Strategic Plan
In a Work Session Tuesday night, the Los Alamos County Council decided to revisit the Los Alamos County Strategic Plan. Adopted in July 2011, the Plan contains 10 focus areas and 16 goals. Councilors elected to office after the adoption of the plan said they would like to have more input into the stated goals. Several Councilors said that it would be useful to put the progress toward the goals into a more measurable format. Councilor Rick Reiss said not enough emphasis was placed on housing, while Councilor Kristin Henderson wanted to place more emphasis on culture, recreation and education, asReal Estate Round Table: Preparing Your House for Show and Sell
Real Estate Round Table: Preparing Your House for Show and SellIt’s all about first impressions. The best approach is to recognize and accept that “less is more” and the house should be “white-glove test” clean.
Ample storage space is a draw for most home buyers. If they see too-full cabinets or stuffed closets it gives the impression that the house doesn’t offer enough storage space. Closets and cabinets should be no more than half full. Nothing should be on the floor that isn’t essential (remove stacks and piles). Bookshelves should be sparse and decorative items should be minimal. Read More

Letter to the Editor: Mil Levy Bad Idea
By GERALD ANTOSIm afraid I have to agree with Erika Gorman that the school levy is a very bad idea. We just learned today at the Lab Director’s talk that our health care costs are probably going to go up more then 11 percent and with the prospect of another 1 percent raise I’m sinking into a hole fast.
UNM-LA Officials Clarify Mil Levy Misconceptions
UNM-LA News:
UNM-LA Executive Director Cedric Page and Dean of Instruction Cindy Rooney today addressed misconceptions surrounding the use of funds from the mil levy.
Cindy Norwood Rooney: “Just for clarification, the UNM-LA request does not involve construction projects, nor will the county control the use of the funds. The funds will be used to continue programs in fire science, EMS, robotics, and other programs that were initially funded with grant money. The additional funds will also allow UNM-LA to improve dual credit opportunities for high school students.”

Letter to the Editor: Voting Against Latest Tax Levy
By ERIKA GORMANI went to the County Building today to drop off my ballot, voting against the latest tax levy. It seems like every year we are asked to support yet another levy, for worthy causes such as school building upgrades, UNM-LA and the like. My husband and I work very hard for our money and are not upper-echelon labbies that bring home the big bucks…these tax hikes have a real impact on our budget. In the past five years, my taxes have increased $616. The latest levy would increase that another $168.
We do not have unlimited funds, and even if we did, I do not trust the County to use my tax Read More
