Mercury, Venus and Jupiter will come very close together Sunday evening, May 26.
The Pajarito Environmental Education Center and the Pajarito Astronomers will be there with telescopes to help viewers enjoy this remarkable event.
The telescopes will be set up for twilight sky viewing starting 8:45 p.m., about 45 minutes after sunset. Besides these planets, there will also be some spectacular galaxies to see. The location is the Soccer Field at Overlook Park in White Rock.

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center is launching a new night sky program, inspired by an idea from student board member Amanda Mercer.
The first presentation is a Saturn-Day Program about the planet famous for its size and rings.
The program takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25.

Nathan Lang Receives Los Alamos Garden Club Scholarship

The Los Alamos Garden Club Scholarship has awarded a $500 scholarship, in memory of Erla Mae Larson, to Nathan Lang of Los Alamos.
Lang will attend UNM in the fall and plans to major in Biology or Biomedicine.
He has been on the cross country team for four years, has been a down hill skier at Pajarito Mountain for six years and since 2012, has worked on computers for the New Mexico Consortium building.
He said that a brief experience helping the homeless in Denver opened his eyes to the number of “needy around us.”

BILLIE CRABB Jan. 10, 1931 – May 3, 2013
Billie Crabb passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, May 3, 2013.
Billie had been a resident of Los Alamos for 66 years. She moved from Mineral Wells, Texas to Los Alamos to be with her father who at the time was working building the city.
She met her husband Billy Crabb and they were married in June of 1951. They were very active in church activities and were founding members of the White Rock Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school until her illness made that difficult.

The Pajarito Astronomers will hold a County-sponsored Dark Night starting at 8 p.m. (sunset), Saturday, May 11 at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park in White Rock.
Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes and star gaze.
A crescent moon will be visible, as will the planets Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. There will be a tour of the winter and spring constellations, and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies.
