On behalf of the Los Alamos Chapter of Hadassah, we want to thank all the runners, walkers, sponsors and volunteers who supported our third annual “Run For Her Life” 5K and 10K run to fight breast cancer held Sunday, April 14 in Los Alamos.
Although it was a very cold and windy morning, we had 70 participants and made $4,100 that will be sent directly to Hadassah for breast cancer research. Every dollar counts when we are helping Hadassah help everyone in the world. Read More
A View from the Stacks: Change in the Air!
Column by GWEN KALAVAZAOver the next few weeks, you will see some changes at Mesa Public Library as plans get underway to improve the area in front of the library.
Beginning May 1, the road in front of the library will be closed while crews make library drive into a one-way street, running from Oppenheimer Drive toward Fuller Lodge, as well as install a new, larger drive-up book drop. Improvements to sidewalks and crosswalks also are planned.

Eastern Area 2 Concrete, Paving & Utility Project – Phase 2
Canyon Road is closed to through traffic between 9th Street and 15th Street. Local motorists can expect daytime flagging operations in this area with minor delays. Two-way traffic will be restored in the evenings and weekends when work is not occurring.
The contractor will begin removal of sidewalk, curb, and gutter on the west side of Canyon Road, leaving the concrete intact on the east side of the road for pedestrian use.

Construction to Close Connection Between Library Lots

The Mesa Public Library Safety Improvements project is gearing up to start the week of April 29.
The road between the main parking lot (near Oppenheimer Drive) and the overflow parking lot (where Farmers’ Market is held) will be closed for the next six to eight weeks. Access to the west parking lot is available from Oppenheimer Drive, and access to the overflow parking lot is available from Bathtub Row.

Los Alamos Ranking Rises on ‘US News & World Report’ Best High Schools List
LAPS News:
US News & World Report has selected Los Alamos High School for a “Silver Medal” ranking in 2013 as one of America’s Best High Schools.
From a review of 21,035 U.S. public high schools, Los Alamos ranked 556 in the nation. Los Alamos ranking was up significantly from the 2012 “Silver Medal” ranking of 638.
Rankings of high schools are largely determined by participation in Advanced Placement courses. This past year, 49 percent of the 1,124 of the students at Los Alamos High School enrolled in AP courses. Read More
