Empty Nesters Group to Learn Estate Planning
FSN News:
A new group, “Empty Nesters and Friends,” will meet 6:30-8 p.m. the second Monday of each month through June at Family Strengths Network (FSN.)
This is an opportunity to enjoy speakers and socialize. Empty Nester wannabes are welcome, too.
There is no charge for this event, although donations are accepted. The even coordinator is Devorah Gavron.

Historic District Guide Training Starts Today

Mandatory walking tour guide training will take place at 11 a.m. to noon today, Friday March 8.
Volunteer guides should gather promptly at 11 a.m. in the Nambe Room of Fuller Lodge, and will walk the tour route in the Historic District.
March 11 will be the kick-off date for these 1-hour long guided walks, which are being offered Monday through Saturday.
Tickets for these docent-guided tours are $10 for adults and will be on sale each day at the Historical Museum, 1050 Bathtub Row (next to Fuller Lodge), and can be obtained just before the tour. Read More

The construction of the new Multi-Purpose Covered Arena near the North Mesa Stables is now complete.
The community is invited to join the Los Alamos County Council as they host a Grand Opening event for the new arena at 4 p.m., March 22 at Brewer Arena, 750 North Mesa Road.

Underground Cable Short Caused Tuesday Power Outage
DPU News:
An underground cable termination caused Tuesday afternoon’s power outage that lasted nearly two hours and affected a portion of North Mesa.
Reported at 2:05 p.m., approximately one third of the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities’ customers were without power on San Ildefonso Road beginning at and including the Del Norte/Del Sol neighborhoods and continuing east out to Big Rock Loop. DPU’s electric line crew repaired the cable and restored electricity by 3:50 p.m. Tuesday.

LAPD Seeks Citizen Volunteers

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) is looking for citizens for a variety of tasks, as they seek to expand a successful existing volunteers program into new police administration areas.
The goal of the department is to call upon citizen volunteers to help with daily non-emergency response tasks in order to allow police officers more time in the field concentrating on police enforcement and pro-active community outreach programs or services.
LAPD is seeking volunteers to assist in three areas:
- Fingerprinting services;
- Data entry; and

Every year children outgrow their soccer clothes and shoes and now there is a local opportunity to donate those items to children in Uganda.
The “Soccer for Uganda” drive is underway in Los Alamos and White Rock to collect used soccer clothes and shoes along with used soccer balls, cleats, shin guards, soccer socks and jerseys.
Los Alamos Drop-off: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday at Crossroads Bible Church, 97 East Road.
