Sioux Street Loses Power
DPU News:
A bad transformer was the cause of last night’s outage on Sioux Street in the North Mesa neighborhood. Reported at 6:30 p.m., approximately 120 Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities’ customers were without electricity.
DPU’s electric line crew initiated temporary repairs by back feeding electricity to restore power by 9 p.m.; permanent repairs will continue today, Jan. 24.
Crews will plan a 30-minute outage affecting eight customers, to complete the repairs. The time of this planned outage is not yet determined. The remaining Sioux Street customers will experience Read More

Chaparral Prescribed Burn Begins Today
SANTA FE —The Santa Fe National Forest Cuba Ranger District expects to begin the 60-acre Chaparral prescribed burn today, Jan, 24 northwest of Fenton Lake and Seven Springs, 10 miles southeast of Cuba and nine miles northwest of Jemez Springs.
Smoke will be visible from Gillman, Jemez Pueblo, Jemez Springs, Cuba, Rio Rancho and Albuquerque.

Creative Classes Abound at Fuller Lodge Art Center

Fuller Lodge Art Center will offer art studio experiences for children on Wednesday afternoons.
There are a few single session classes, as well as a number of serial classes.
Longtime Los Alamos artist Thelma Hahn will teach a 4-week “Clay Creations” class, first for grades 1-3, then later in the semester for grades 4-6.

According to the County Clerk’s Office, the cost of this special election to taxpayers is approximately $30,000.
The Los Alamos Public Schools administration could have saved taxpayers a large sum of money by holding this election on the same date as the general November 2012 election, but opted not to.

Los Alamos entered both Varsity and Junior Varsity wrestling teams Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Pecos Invitational.
The LAHS-V cruised to a team victory in the tourney. LAHS-V and JV placed 12 wrestlers in either the finals or consolation finals of their weight class.
