LAHS Finishes 2nd at Wrestling Invitational
LAHS WRESTLING News:
On Saturday, Jan. 12, the Los Alamos High School wrestling team finished in second place behind 5A Eldorado at the Academy High School Wrestling Invitational.
Teams participating in Saturday’s invitational included Albuquerque Academy High, Albuquerque High, Bernalillo, Eldorado, Grants, La Cueva, LAHS, Rio Grande and West Mesa.
Placing in their weight classes were:
- Cory Geyer 1st;
- Brian Geyer 1st;
- Arnoldo Ortiz 1st in his second overtime match;
- Chandler Lauritzen 2nd;

Letter to the Editor: Name Municipal Building ‘Citizens’ Municipal Building’
By Diana StepanIn my opinion, the new Municipal Building should be named the “Citizens’ Municipal Building,” since the citizens paid for it and the citizens are the ones who are supposed to be served by the employees who work at the Municipal Building.
If that is not acceptable, please simply name it the “Los Alamos Municipal Building.”
There is no one I can think of that deserves the honor except for the citizens of Los Alamos County. Read More

Peter Russell Forman, 78, died at home in Los Alamos, New Mexico Dec. 30, 2012 due to complications of cancer.
Peter began his life Aug. 26, 1934 in Toronto, Ontario Canada, as the third child of James and Jane Forman.
For his Dad’s health, the family relocated to Glendora in Southern California in 1948.
As a teenager he worked chilly winter nights for his father and others in lemon groves smudging to prevent frost damage, and summers he loaded crates of lemons at the packing house, thus learning that he never again wanted to be a farmer!

In the next few weeks we in Los Alamos have a choice; vote to keep our schools as they are or vote to make them better.

Prolonged Frigid Blast Blankets Los Alamos

NOAA News:
A potent cold front that surged across New Mexico Friday with strong gusty winds and areas of light snow will usher in a prolonged blast of well below normal temperatures through early next week.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) explains that a large upper level trough of low pressure taking shape over the western United States will remain nearly stationary over the region through early next week.

School Bond Ballot is in the Mail
Los Alamos School Board President Kevin Honnell checks his bond ballot one more time before putting it in the mail. The school district is asking the community for vote on a $20 million bond that would fund the rebuilding necessary at Aspen Elementary School and provide much needed funding for upgrades to utilities and maintenance to other schools in the district. To ensure that your vote counts, ballots must be returned by Jan. 29. The Los Alamos Public Schools Board of Education received a bit of good news during its regular meeting Tuesday – the recent audit gave the district an unqualified opinion, which is the best rating that could be received.

Letter to the Editor: ‘Max Baker Municipal Building’ Gets My Vote!
By JJ MaierI am hoping the committee will consider the concept of naming the new Municipal Building after (former County Administrator) Max Baker instead of Jeannette Wallace.
Max had so much more to do with our County’s administration if one reviews his record – during some of our roughest times – and he frequently was serving us as an “interim administrator.”
He gave us so much and asked so little in return.
Jeannette served the district of which we were always a part, but had little to do with the administration and running of internal LAC affairs.
