I attended the meeting tonight (Nov. 14) of the 90 percent stage of drawn planning for the updated Ashley Pond.
The plans are approved by the County Council about 90 percent to 10 percent interest in the actual maintenance of the Historic District as it should be considered, with native plants of the Jemez Mountains only, cattails, moss, certain grasses, and only the kind of fish that would be found in a pond in the Jemez.

Santa Fe National Forest offices and various vendors in Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Pecos and Las Vegas will sell personal-use Christmas tree permits for $10 beginning Monday, Nov. 19 through Dec. 24. Christmas tree cutting also begins Nov. 19.
Anyone planning to cut their tree Thanksgiving Day must purchase a permit ahead of time because all Forest Service offices will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

David William Sturm July 22, 1957-Nov. 3, 2012He passed felling burned trees on Cochiti Mesa from the Las Conchas Fire in 2011.
One of the massive trees came down hitting him and sending him over the cliff. He passed doing what he loved and was surrounded by dear friends.
He was born July 22, 1957 in New Brighton, PA., and attended schools in Pasadena, Texas.

An outstanding New Mexican writer will be honored for her work in fiction next spring when her book receives the prestigious Zia Award.
New Mexican women writers are invited to submit their books for consideration for the award, given each year by New Mexico Press Women at the annual spring conference.
To be eligible to receive the award, selected winners must read at the award luncheon during the 2013 conference in April.

BREAKING NEWS: 11 Local Cars Burglarized Overnight

Eleven vehicle burglaries were committed primarily on North Mesa overnight.
A few cars also were burglarized in Quemazon and the 2500 Circle neighborhoods.
Los Alamos Deputy Police Chief Randy Foster explained that most of the vehicles broken into were unlocked and the missing items were left visible on the vehicles front or rear seats.
The items stolen were mainly small in size such as leathermans and binoculars, he said.

In the mid nineties, Chris Ward attended a craft show in Owatonna, Minn. In one of the craft show booths she saw a fabulous beaded bracelet that she absolutely loved.
She wanted to give it to her mother, but was afraid that the colors weren’t quite right.

Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Outpost Ice Arena in Albuquerque, four ice hockey teams composed entirely of girls from New Mexico, including two teams from Los Alamos Hockey Association (LAHA), came together to play a two-game series.
This is believed to be the first time four all New Mexico girls teams have played each other in one day.
The LAHA U12 Girls fell to the NMIce U12 Girls. The newly formed LAHA U14 Girls squad was bested by in-state rival New Mexico Mustangs U14.
