OBITUARY: Tamela Seagraves 1964-July 16, 2012
Tamela Seagraves, 48, a resident of Los Alamos passed away from an unexpected illness on Monday, July 16, 2012.
She was born in Gallup, N.M. but spent her adult life in Los Alamos, N.M. A loving wife and mother, Tamela will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Her family always came first, but her second loves were her dogs and her gardens.

OBITUARY: Willie N. Montoya August 6, 1924-July 14, 2012
Willie N. Montoya, 87, of Los Alamos, New Mexico, died peacefully on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Sombrillo Nursing Facility. Willie was born on August 6, 1924 in Cimarron, New Mexico; the son of Abel and Manuelita Montoya.
On June 20, 1959, he married Adonelia (Nellie) Rael, they celebrated almost 50 years together until Nellie passed away on January 28, 2009. Willie absolutely adored his wife, Nellie; they took great pleasure in dancing at various functions and events all over New Mexico. He was employed at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) from 1949 to 1987.

Renewable Energy Used in Three New County Buildings

COUNTY News:
The County has recently completed Solar Thermal Hot Water Systems for the Animal Shelter, Justice Center and Eco-Station Administration buildings.
In an effort to meet the County’s goals for commitment to sustainability and hydrocarbon independence initiatives, the County accepted grants of $103,000 for both the Animal Shelter and Justice Center in June 2010.
The grants were funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Barranca K-Kids Win Second at International Conference

Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos First Vice President Don Casperson carried a float made by students from Barranca Mesa Elementary School K-Kids Cub to New Orleans earlier this month.
The float was an entry in a contest for all K-Kids Clubs around the world in support of “Project Eliminate.”
The Los Alamos float took second place at the international convention. First place went to a float from a Kiwanis Club in Malaysia.
The Barranca K-Kids constructed their entry from a standard size shoebox.

Substantial Sewer Rate Increase to be Proposed

The Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities plans to propose and discuss a 35 percent residential sewer rate increase during a joint county council and board of public utilities work session Tuesday night in White Rock.
Utilities Manager John Arrowsmith reports that sewer rates may have been held artificially low in the past.
Costs for maintenance have risen dramatically for Los Alamos’ aging sewer system.
