The Palestine Film Series continues with the documentary “The Encampments” provided to the community free of charge at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at SALA Event Center.

From Executive Producer Macklemore, “The Encampments offers an urgent, intimate portrait of America’s student movement, ignited at Columbia University as students protested their university’s ties to the war on Gaza. Their actions sparked a nationwide uprising, with encampments spreading across hundreds of campuses. Featuring detained activist Mahmoud Khalil, alongside professors, whistleblowers, and organizers, the film captures the deeper stakes of a historic moment that continues to reverberate across the globe.”

The three previous documentaries provided to the community from the Palestine Film Series, “No Other Land” and “Where Olive Trees Weep”, and “Israelism” were created by Palestinians living on the West Bank.

The first two documentaries, No Other Land and Where Olive Trees Weep show how ordinary Palestinian families manage their everyday lives while Israelis move into the West Bank and claim Palestinian land and water for settlements. (In July, Awdah Hathaleen, a Palestinian journalist who helped make the film No Other Land, was killed by an Israeli settler.) 

The third film, Israelism, tells the struggle with modern Jewish identity from the point of view of young Jews raised to unconditionally love Israel until they visit the West Bank and “their lives take sharp left turns when they witness the brutal way Israel treats Palestinians.”
