Candidate Pat Soran, seated, and Campaign Manager Rick Reiss were at the Los Alamos Municipal Building this afternoon to file for Soran’s current seat, Position 3 on the UNM-Los Alamos Advisory Board. Soran was appointed to the Board when the winner of the last election moved away. He was chosen from a pool of about 10 people who were interested in the post. ‘The UNM-LA staff does a great job,’ Soran said. ‘Their hard work allows the Board to focus on meaningful strategic planning.’ Soran has high hopes that the new UNM provost overseeing the branch campuses, James Holloway, will incorporate the campus more fully with UNM-Albuquerque. ‘I strongly believe the way out of poverty for Northern New Mexicans is through education, and UNM-LA is a great place to get your start in college,’ Soran said. Soran and his wife believe in UNM-LA so strongly, they set up an endowment to help the college build its future. Photo by Bonnie J. Gordon/ladailypost.com
