From the Office of U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce:
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce released the following statement after signing on to an Amicus Brief recommending the Supreme Court of the United States reverse the Ninth Circuit’s decision in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v. Xavier Becerra, Attorney General, challenging the constitutionality of California’s Reproductive Freedom, Accountability, Comprehensive Care and Transparency (FACT) Act.
“The American people have a Constitutional right to religious freedom and conscience protections. This fundamental right in the First Amendment prevents the federal government from having the authority to compel a person or entity to take action that violates their faith and values. The California mandate is not only an assault on freedom of religion, but an assault on the values of all Americans who have the right to live out their own beliefs, free of oppression. It is simply wrong and goes against the individual freedoms our nation represents,” Pearce said. “Religious liberties are for all Americans. I stand proud with my colleagues to support the rights of the unborn and sanctity of human life.”
Rep. Pearce is one of 144 Members of Congress to sign this Amicus Brief, upholding the First Amendment’s guarantee to religious freedom and conscience protections.
