PEEC News:

Learn what is coming up in April’s night skies this Friday, April 5 in the Los Alamos Nature Center’s planetarium.

Astronomer Steve Becker will give audience members an interactive tour of the heavens that will highlight the planets, star patterns and constellations that may be readily observed throughout the month. The talk begins at 6 p.m. and is perfect for beginner stargazers who want to learn more.

The April Night Sky Show will serve as a preshow for the Pajarito Astronomer’s Dark Night the following evening at Overlook Park in White Rock. Dark Nights begin at sunset at Spirio Soccer Field. This Saturday the sun will set at 7:30 p.m. and the moon and Mars will be of interest that evening. Observing ends by 1:00 a.m.

In addition to this talk, the nature center will show the full-dome film “National Parks Adventure” at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 6. This film illustrates the power of America’s national parks through incredible stories and images. The film was brought to Los Alamos by CB Fox, Metzger’s Hardware and the Delle Foundation with additional funding from Manhattan Project National Historical Park.

Friday night astronomy talks are going to begin at 6 p.m. starting in April instead of 7 p.m. This way, individuals can attend the summer concerts afterward the talks and other events coming up this summer.

Seating is limited for both of these events, so please call the nature center at 505.662.0460 or stop by to reserve your tickets. Admission for both programs is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Events in the planetarium are not recommended for children under age 4.
