MUSIC News:

What does one get when 16 of the finest young pianists in Los Alamos present a public recital? Find out by attending the Musicale Recital at 2 p.m., Sunday at Fuller Lodge for a vibrant mixture or solos, duets and trios spanning all musical style periods from J.S. Bach to the present.

The Sunday Musicales are regular presentations by the Los Alamos Music Teachers Association (LAMTA), presented in fall and spring terms for the public’s enjoyment.

Students performing include award-winning students:

  • Josh Shevitz, age 13, and winner of the recent District Honors Piano Competition, Level III, for his performance of a set of Kabalevsky Variations; as well as promising young student, Anya Zapf-Seet, age seven.
  • Anya was awarded NM State Winner in Elementary Composition and will be performing her own work for solo piano.
  • Anton Meyerwitz, age 11, is a talented young student who recently relocated to the state from Colorado, and he will be performing works by Bach and Kuhlau that he is preparing for an upcoming solo recital.

Additional Sunday performers are:

LAMTA is the local affiliate of the State (PMTNM) and National (MTNA) professional music organizations for independent music teachers and college music faculty. All performers in Musicales are students of teachers who are professional members of all three organizations. Students for this recital represent teachers Annata Black (of Taos, but an LAMTA member); Janna Warren, and Madeline Williamson.

Although the program is free to the public, all donations are gladly accepted at the reception which follows in the lobby. All donations go to support ongoing enrichment activities conducted on behalf of students by the LAMTA. LAMTA is a non-profit 501-(c-3) organization with the mission of furthering the art of music teaching and programs that encourage and support music study and appreciation for students and their community.
