Police Arrest Suspects Fleeing In Stolen Truck

Police responded to a report of shoplifters fleeing Smith’s Marketplace at about 10 p.m. Friday in a stolen truck. An officer encountered the truck in a cul-de-sac off East Road near Arroyo Lane. Police Chief Dino Sgambellone told the Los Alamos Daily Post this morning that the officer, whose name is not being released at this time, exited the vehicle and walked toward the truck. The driver drove aggressively toward the officer who fired a shot. The truck hit some mail boxes and crashed into a parked vehicle. The four individuals inside the truck jumped out and fled the scene on foot. Police captured the individual believed to be the driver along with one of the passengers and booked them into the local jail. Police also arrested three females apparently called to pick up the absconders; they were booked on drug related charges. Sgambellone said the four men are believed to be in their 20s and not from Los Alamos. He added that the two individuals that got away are thought to no longer be in the area. He said that further details will be released on this case following the investigation. Photo by Pamela Chavez
