LAPD News:
The Los Alamos Police Department is receiving multiple complaints of fraudulent telephone scams occurring within the county over the past few days.
This scam is nothing new, however, multiple Los Alamos residents are being called from the “Los Alamos County Sheriff’s Office” stating residents owe fees for judicial judgements and/or failure to pay fines.
These phone calls are all false. Do not respond to calls but rather hang immediately.
Typically the phone numbers given are non-active telephone numbers and when you call back you are routed to a bogus messaging system claiming to be the Los Alamos Sheriff’s Office. Sometimes a person will answer but these are the scammers who are attempting to get you to wire the money through Western Union or add money to a “Charge Card” account.
“The best way to avoid these scams is never trust anyone calling you asking for money to be wired or transferred in this manner,” Cmdr. Oliver Morris said.
