Stop and go traffic. On an early fall outing, we drove the Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway in northern Colorado. During the journey, we experienced stop and go traffic high in the mountains from a large herd of sheep traveling along the road. The delay was a delight for us as we gazed at and photographed the sheep for about an hour. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com
Mission: The Mission San Xavier Del Bac is just south of Tucson, Ariz. We visited the site in early March and were in awe of the beauty of the mission. The white exterior of the Spanish style mission is visible for miles in the Arizona desert. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com

2020 … what a year. In spite of the difficulties we all faced this year, we did manage to do some traveling. Before things “shut down” in mid March, we were fortunate enough to have traveled seven weeks in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
However, since mid March we have traveled very little. We enjoyed a few short trips this summer and fall to the mountains of Colorado. We also made two trips to Texas to visit Marilyn’s parents and other family during 2020.
When thinking of how to present a “Review of 2020”, I decided to divide the selections into two parts: This week, I would like to feature a selection of images from our travels in 2020 that were included in the “Posts From the Road” series this year; and
Next week, I will feature photos that were taken in prior years but also published in “Posts From the Road” during the year of 2020.
Editor’s note: Longtime Los Alamos photographer Gary Warren and his wife Marilyn are traveling around the country and he shares his photographs, which appear in the ‘Posts from the Road’ series published in the Sunday edition of the Los Alamos Daily Post.
Admiring the View: In January 2020, we visited our country’s newest National Park. White Sands National Monument was elevated to White Sands National Park in December 2019 and we had planned on visiting the park while traveling in January. In this image, a group of visitors admire the view of white sands landscape from atop one of the ridges in the sand dunes. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com
Rainbow: A beautiful rainbow was seen from our campsite following a rain storm near Fairplay, Colo. during the summer. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com
Natural Beauty: Eleven Mile Recreation Area lies in the shadow of Pikes Peak in the Pike National Forest west of Colorado Springs. The Platte River and the lush greenery in the canyon made for a scenic drive and several photographic opportunities. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com
Reflections: Reflections in the cool waters of North Michigan Creek Reservoir created a beautiful scene at Colorado State Forest State Park this past summer. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com
Highway to the Sky: Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park is the highest continuous paved highway in the U.S. We drove this scenic highway this fall, which reaches an elevation of over 12,000 feet. The ‘Highway to the Sky’ as it is known traverses for 48 miles across the beautiful park between Estes Park and Grand Lake, Colo.
