Posts From The Road: Dead Horse Point State Park

Dead Horse Point: Dead Horse Point offers breathtaking views of the Colorado River 2,000 feet below and the majestic Canyonlands National Park on the other side of the river. This landscape formed by ice, water and wind over millions of years is some of the most unique geological features in the world. Photo by Gary Warren/ladailypost.com

While we are all staying at home during the pandemic, the next few Posts From the Road will be from previous travels during the last couple of years.

Dead Horse Point State Park is located about 32 miles west of Moab, Utah. While the park is not large in size, it boasts some of the most spectacular views of any state park in the country. We have visited numerous state parks in many states, and this is a favorite of ours.

The park features several lookout points but the most prominent is the Dead Horse Overlook. It sits on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Colorado River as it meanders and twists through Utah’s canyon lands.

Editor’s note: Longtime Los Alamos photographer Gary Warren and his wife Marilyn are traveling around the country and he shares his photographs, which appear in the ‘Posts from the Road’ series published in the Sunday edition of the Los Alamos Daily Post.
