A preliminary hearing has been set for Feb. 23 in Los Alamos Magistrate Court for Belamie L. Pick, 40, of Medanales on charges of forgery, fraud and identity theft.

The charges were originally filed in September 2016 and in September 2017 Pick allegedly failed to appear for a preliminary hearing and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On Jan. 19, she was picked up by New Mexico State Patrol.

The 2016 request for issuance of an arrest warrant written by Los Alamos Police Det. Sgt. James Rodriguez alleges Los Alamos National Bank staff and the victim reported that someone had used the victim’s personal information to gain access to her savings account and had withdrawn $825 at the teller window of the White Rock branch.

The documents state that the victim, who was in the process of applying for a home loan had received a phone call asking about the application and requesting her bank account number so that she could charge the fees for the loan application at a discounted rate. The victim told police the caller had her personal information including her social security and driver’s license numbers. The victim called the bank an hour later to check on her accounts and found out a withdrawal of $825 had been made from her savings account.

Police reviewed footage of the bank’s teller window and distributed a Crime Stoppers news release to the community containing a photo of the suspect shown in the video. They received an anonymous tip naming Pick and discovered that she had an outstanding New Mexico State Patrol warrant for failure to appear on several traffic citations.

Pick remains free on conditions of release pending the Feb. 23 hearing.
