May 29 at 5:21 p.m. / Police charged Kevin Herring, 34, of Los Alamos with shoplifting at Smith’s Food & Drug Centers on Central Avenue and issued him a summons to appear in court. The estimated loss is less than $100.

Little Bear Fire Consumes Nearly 35,000 Acres

The Little Bear Fire sparked by lightning June 4 near Ruidoso in the Smokey Bear Ranger District, Lincoln National Forest remains o percent contained.
The massive blaze has burned some 34,651 acres of mixed conifer and ponderosa pine and destroyed about 35 structures as of this morning.
There are currently eight Type 1 and Type 2 crews comprised of 429 firefighters battling this inferno with 47 fire engines, seven water tenders, five dozers and two Type 1 helicopters.
Road Closures:
- N.M. 532 (Ski Run Road) at mile marker 3, east and west;
- N.M. 48 from mile marker 8 to mile marker
Colorado Peak and Bear Springs Fires Holding Despite Red Flag Conditions
Both the Colorado Peak and Bear Springs fires held Friday despite red flag conditions – hot, dry and windy weather.
Firefighters continue mop-up operations. Mop-up operations consist of putting out or removing burning material that’s near containment lines, cutting down standing dead trees and creating cup trenches to prevent debris from rolling onto unburned vegetation.
Colorado Peak: 246 acres, 95 percent contained. The Colorado Peak Fire is located on the Española Ranger District, Santa Fe National Forest; approximately 10 miles northwest of the Santa Fe Airport.

BREAKING NEWS: Los Alamos Fire Department Imposes Local Restrictions Effective this Evening
LAFD News:
Effective this evening, the Los Alamos Fire Department will be posting signs and taping off fire rings and grills in locations throughout Los Alamos County.
Some locations in specific parks that are yet to be determined may remain open due to the location of such device in relation to safety distances from combustible and flammable material.
These will be marked accordingly.
