Supreme Court Affirms Conviction Of Albuquerque Man For Murder When He Was 17-Years-Old

SANTA FE — The state Supreme Court Monday upheld the first-degree murder conviction of Ruben Benavidez for fatally shooting his mother’s boyfriend in 2022 in Albuquerque.
In a unanimous opinion written by Justice Julie J. Vargas, the Court rejected Benavidez’s arguments there was insufficient evidence that he had the necessary criminal intent for willful and deliberate murder. Benavidez contended that he did not deliberately kill Cedric Guzman but instead he was provoked.

Emergency-Preparedness Exercise Scheduled At Los Alamos National Laboratory Tuesday Feb. 24
LANL News:
Los Alamos National Laboratory has scheduled an emergency preparedness exercise for Tuesday, Feb. 24. The exercise will test the preparedness of personnel who would respond in the case of an actual emergency.
The exercise will last approximately six hours, beginning at approximately 9 a.m. MST. The event is only an exercise.
Some elements of this exercise may be observable to the public, such as increased emergency vehicle traffic, smoke, workers in protective equipment performing simulated activities, and “exercise in progress” signage in or near the affected areas.

Los Alamos County Expands Bulk Brush Collection Services Due To Wildfire Concerns

In response to the dry and warm winter season and associated wildfire concerns, Los Alamos County is expanding curbside bulk brush collection services offered to residents during the weeks of Feb. 23, March 9, and March 23.
Please note the following guidelines and limitations, which help ensure that the curbside collection process runs smoothly and efficiently:
- Residents must sign up and schedule a bulk pickup by contacting Environmental Services by phone at 505.662.8163 or email at solidwaste@losalamonm.gov.
- A maximum of 15 bulk service
